About Ingrid's Yarn & Needlework

Ingrid's Yarn & Needlework is owned by Ingrid who has had a lifelong interest in knitting, crocheting and embroidery work.

Ingrid was raised in Edmonton, Alberta along with her three younger brothers by her parents who emmigrated from Germany during the 50's. After graduating from the University of Alberta with an Arts degree, she moved to Calgary and worked in the energy industry.

In her 'previous life' she worked with Gulf Canada Resources (now part of Conoco) in the Calgary office. She worked in a variety of positions ending up as a Senior Business Analyst in the Finance department.

Although she work primarily in Calgary, the last several years she was temporarily posted to a number of overseas offices to train finance personnel in Gulf's subsidiaries. It was in these postings (Malayasia, Nethlerlands, Australia, and England) that she began to appreciate working in milder climates. After a lifetime of prairies winters, this idea was not all that hard to accept!

When retirement loomed, Ingrid and her husband began an exciting process of relocating to a milder climate. Although they flirted with the idea of emmigrating to Australia, when all the factors were weighed, the decision was made to relocate to the Cowichan Valley, on Vancouver Island. The area boasts the highest mean annual temperture in all of Canada--something every Canadian can appreciate!.

Knitting, crocheting and embroidery have been Ingrid's hobbies for many, many years. In April 2001, Ingrid saw an opportunity to "work" at her hobbies and started Ingrid's Yarn & Needlework. Located in the historic downtown section of Duncan, the store introduced her to many, many, wonderful people from all parts of the world!
